Became a National Couple with My Ex Chapter 14: No Tears, No Regrets, No Getting Back Together.
Lu Yuan was stunned.
What did this have to do with Old Master Bian?
He wanted to ask more, but Bian Xu clearly wasn’t in the mood to explain. He just told him to pass the message along.
Because of Bian Xu’s notoriously picky personality, his personal assistants usually didn’t last long. Lu Yuan had only been in the job for less than two years and didn’t know much about certain things.
However, over at the Beicheng studio, there was an assistant named Qi Yuan who had worked with Bian Xu for many years. He also had regular contact with Bian Xu’s grandfather.
Lu Yuan gave him a call to deliver the message, then casually asked why the old man needed a blood pressure pill. That’s when Qi Yuan filled him in on the backstory.
Turns out, Bei Ying’s grandfather and Bian Xu’s grandfather were close friends back in the day. Old Master Bian had dedicated his life to music and the performing arts, and he’d seen Bei Ying dance ballet when she was young. He was quite impressed and had even thought about matchmaking her with his grandson someday.
But Bian Xu, being the emotionally-detached type, didn’t even remember how many eyes Bei Ying had on her face after turning away once.
Later on, when Bei Ying entered the entertainment industry—something Old Master Bian didn’t approve of—she drifted away from the Bian family, and the idea of a match was quietly dropped.
That was until earlier this year, when Bei Ying, either tired of showbiz or triggered by something, suddenly showed up to visit and flatter Old Master Bian.
The old man still had some lingering affection for her, and when he noticed she seemed interested in Bian Xu, he reminded his grandson not to be too harsh, even if he wasn’t interested—no need to make things awkward between the families.
Bian Xu had a privileged upbringing and an older brother above him, so he’d always gotten his way. The only person he truly respected, though he'd never admit it, was his grandfather—the one who introduced him to music.
So out of respect for the old man, he tolerated some of Bei Ying’s "moves."
But…
Lu Yuan seriously wanted to crack open his boss’s head and see what kind of twisted wiring he had in there, to actually believe that just because he could pretend to ignore things, Liang Yixuan could too.
Would it have killed him to sit down and explain things to his girlfriend nicely?
After Liang Yixuan got off the phone with Xiao Jie, she received a group message from the show’s production team. It said that due to Pan Yu working overtime and unable to attend, that night’s texting segment would be canceled for now, and whether or not it would be rescheduled would depend on the situation later.
So, Liang Yixuan went straight back to her room to rest.
Cheng Nuo was still lying in bed, happily scrolling through gossip on her phone. Liang Yixuan put on her sleep mask and lay down, exhausted but unable to fall asleep. It felt like her head was filled with hundreds of loud, restless voices. She drifted in and out of sleep until late into the night before finally falling into a deep slumber.
Since it was the weekend, she hadn’t set an alarm and ended up sleeping in. When she woke up, it was already eleven in the morning.
Liang Yixuan was rarely this undisciplined. Sleeping too long gave her a headache. Dazed and groggy, she fumbled for her phone on the nightstand and saw several missed calls from Xiao Jie and over a dozen messages.
The most recent one read:「You better not tell me you've already gone back to that trash ex of yours out of some sudden emotional regret.」
What on earth?
Thinking back to last night’s trending topics, something clicked in Liang Yixuan’s mind. She opened Weibo.
Right at the top was a hot topic with a red "Trending" tag: #BianXuBeiYing#
Unlike the previous gossip incident, this time the names were flipped around. Liang Yixuan didn’t quite know what that meant, but she took a deep breath and tapped into the topic.
Several gifs posted by a popular entertainment blogger popped up.
The footage had the same vibe as the last time Bian Xu and Bei Ying were caught on camera.
The first clip was in an underground parking garage. Bian Xu had just opened the door of a Ferrari when songwriter Jensen walked over with Bei Ying, pointed at her, and said something to Bian Xu. Bian Xu waved him off and got into the car.
Just then, his phone seemed to ring. He answered it, looking annoyed, then got back out of the car and gave Bei Ying a slight chin-lift.
Bei Ying pointed in a direction.
In the second clip, Bian Xu got into the driver’s seat of Bei Ying’s Maserati. Once she was seated in the passenger seat, the car drove off.
The third gif was from the same footage that had caused the rumors last time—showing Bian Xu and Bei Ying arriving at a hotel.
The fourth gif picked up right where that one left off. After entering the lobby, Bian Xu walked straight toward the waiting area. Bei Ying quickly followed behind him but twisted her ankle in her high heels and stumbled in his direction. Bian Xu shifted his shoulder to avoid her, said something, and kept walking toward the long sofa.
Bei Ying lowered her head slightly, then walked off alone toward the elevator.
In the fifth gif, Bian Xu was sitting on the sofa. He pulled a tissue from the box on the coffee table and wiped the part of his shirt where Bei Ying had touched him. After waiting a while, he took another phone call, then got up and left the lobby, getting into a Ferrari that had arrived with a driver.
The five gifs were well-sequenced and clearly told a story. Even without sound, it was easy to piece together what had happened.
By the time Liang Yixuan caught up, other netizens had already done all the "homework" and posted breakdowns of the situation——
「I said it last time—if they were caught entering the lobby, why not catch them entering the elevator too? Only explanation: Bian Xu never went upstairs :)」
「Key points: Bei Ying showed up with Jensen, which means her relationship with him is closer than with Bian Xu. Likely, Jensen was asking Bian Xu to give Bei Ying a ride back to the hotel. Bian Xu clearly refused until he got a phone call—no idea from who—then reluctantly agreed. Not gonna say more… gotta leave her some dignity.」
「I don’t think she deserves the dignity. Isn’t anyone wondering—this isn’t even in China, it’s Amsterdam! How did a paparazzo manage to follow them that far? Isn’t that just too convenient?」
「Look closely at gif #2. Just as Bian Xu is about to glance toward the camera, Bei Ying quickly steps in that direction. Doesn’t that seem like she’s trying to block the lens?」
After that comment, people started realizing: First, "Ah! The dating rumor was fake," Then, "Wait… was the whole thing staged by Bei Ying?"
It didn’t take long for someone to connect the timing of this footage reappearing—more than a month later—with what had just happened——
「Holy crap. Did Bei Ying’s repost last night piss Bian Xu off? He gave her a chance and she blew it, so now he’s clapping back.」
「But wait, don’t paparazzi have a code? If they were paid the first time, how are these videos leaking again?」
「Girl, you’re underestimating how powerful capital is. You think a paparazzo wouldn’t leave themselves an escape route in case they had to offend a bigger boss?」
「Bian Xu used to be super chill—even D-listers tried to get clout off him, and he didn’t care. Looks like Bei Ying really crossed the line this time. See for yourself—@BianXuStudio just dropped the receipts.」
Just as Liang Yixuan was digesting all the video content, someone linked her straight to the studio’s post.
Bian Xu didn’t have a personal Weibo account, but his studio did have a verified business profile.
However, the person managing that account was just as emotionless as Bian Xu himself—basically a music-making robot. The last time they posted anything, it was so old it was basically covered in cobwebs.
Fifteen minutes ago, the "zombie account" suddenly came back to life with a new image post.
The caption was just the default four words: Sharing an image.
The image was a copyright registration document stamped with a red seal, showing that the song《Rosabella》, which was officially released three years ago, had actually been completed in February four years ago.
Like many others, Liang Yixuan didn’t get what the post meant at first. It wasn’t until a helpful netizen explained that she understood:
Bei Ying debuted in June four years ago, and before her debut, her real name was Wu Ying. In other words, the "Bei" in Rosabella had nothing to do with Bei Ying.
Back then, ROF (RoseFever) didn’t even have an official group name, so the "rose" theme in the song had no connection to the girl group either.
The supposed connection between Rosabella and Bei Ying was just fans overanalyzing things—plus some intentional misdirection from Bei Ying herself.
Reading this, Liang Yixuan finally understood why Xiao Jie had suspected she might’ve gotten back together with Bian Xu.
Whether Bei Ying deliberately faked the dating rumor was still speculation, but based on the full video footage, it was clear that Bian Xu had no real relationship with her.
The fact that his studio personally stepped in to clarify said everything about Bian Xu’s attitude.
Normally, big names in the industry wouldn’t bother airing personal matters in public—especially someone like Bian Xu. Liang Yixuan knew him. He wasn’t so much "zen" as he was arrogant.
To someone that proud, all those people trying to use him for clout were nothing more than tacky noise—hardly worth a reaction.
So the fact that Bian Xu had gone this far? That was truly unexpected.
But...
To Liang Yixuan, the timing of all these clarifications—after their breakup—gave the whole thing a different flavor.
It didn’t feel like he was trying to clear things up for her sake. It felt more like he couldn’t accept being the one who got dumped.
She exited Weibo and replied to Xiao Jie’s message. At first, she typed just "We didn’t get back together," but that felt too vague. So she edited it and sent:「No tears. No regrets. Not getting back together.」
After replying, Liang Yixuan got up, washed up, changed into a thin white sweater and black pencil pants, then headed downstairs.
In the living room, Cheng Nuo, Shen Ji, and Lin Xiao Sheng were finishing up lunch and debating who should do the dishes.
Hearing footsteps, the three of them turned to look at her.
"You’re up!" Cheng Nuo greeted her. "You were sleeping so soundly, we didn’t wake you. Come eat!"
Lin Xiao Sheng stood up and went to the kitchen. "We saved you some food, I’ll bring it out."
Shen Ji glanced at her and poured a cup of warm water. "Didn’t sleep well?"
"I’m okay…" Liang Yixuan took the cup and thanked Shen Ji, then called out to Lin Xiao Sheng in the kitchen, "No need to bother, I’m not hungry. Did the others eat? You can save it for them."
"Go ahead and eat," Lin Xiao Sheng brought the food over. "Mr. Bian’s door’s been closed all morning—he probably hasn’t gotten up yet."
Liang Yixuan pressed her lips together. "I wasn’t talking about him."
Whether Lin Xiao Sheng picked up on her tone or not, he looked a little dazed. Shen Ji jumped in, "Pan Yu only got back around dawn—he’s probably sleeping through lunch. As for Duan Ye, his schedule’s even worse. Just eat freely."
Liang Yixuan sat down at the table, feeling a little guilty. "Then I’ll do the dishes later to make up for it."
Lin Xiao Sheng was about to say "We’ll do it together," but just then, Bian Xu came downstairs, fully dressed.
Cheng Nuo’s eyes lit up like spotlights. "Mr. Bian is here!" She quickly stood up and offered him the center seat. "Please sit—lunch is ready and waiting for you!"
Liang Yixuan glanced at the now-empty seat across from her. "…"
Bian Xu raised an eyebrow and sat directly across from her.
Cheng Nuo, more attentive than a butler, dashed into the kitchen and brought back clean utensils, placing them neatly in front of Bian Xu. "Enjoy your meal, Mr. Bian."
Bian Xu looked at Liang Yixuan, who was sitting so close yet seemed so distant. She kept her head down, quietly eating, not even glancing his way.
It felt like there was an ocean between them.
"Do you need anything else, Mr. Bian?" Cheng Nuo asked eagerly when he didn’t pick up his chopsticks.
Bian Xu finally looked at her. "Is there something you need?"
Cheng Nuo’s heart sank. Yixuan hadn’t lied—this guy was hard to deal with.
Still, even if he was hard to deal with, she had to give it a try. Her curiosity would kill her otherwise.
This morning’s trending topics had come one after another—from #BianXuBeiYing#, to #BianXuStudioStatement#, to #BeiYingFansLeavingTheFandom#. It was livelier than Chinese New Year.
Even the once-popular "Promised CP" supertopic for Bei Ying and Bian Xu had completely flopped just minutes ago.
Thinking of this record-breaking public clapback—all coming from the mysterious housemate across the table—Cheng Nuo was so excited she wanted to write a romance novel about it on the spot.
Though… she still hadn’t found a suitable female lead.
With a cheeky grin, she sat next to Bian Xu. "It’s nothing major. I just have a few small questions, if you don’t mind me asking?"
Liang Yixuan looked up, already guessing what Cheng Nuo was up to with all this flattery.
Bian Xu gave her a flat look, clearly about to say "No." But when his eyes met Liang Yixuan’s, something shifted.
He changed his answer. "Go ahead."
Cheng Nuo quickly held up a water bottle like a mic. "Mr. Bian, if you and Miss Bei Ying aren’t dating, are you at least close friends?"
"No."
"Then why did you personally drive her back to the hotel that day?" When he didn’t answer right away, Cheng Nuo quickly added, "If that part isn’t allowed to be broadcast, you can just write it down…"
The production team wouldn’t dare include controversial scenes in the final cut without Bian Xu’s approval.
But Bian Xu’s silence wasn’t because of that. He was watching Liang Yixuan quietly pick up food, as if she had no interest in the topic at all.
After a pause, Bian Xu clenched his hand under the table and said, "Our families have known each other for a long time."
Liang Yixuan finished her bowl of borscht and, finding it tasty, helped herself to another.
Cheng Nuo was practically floating—getting answers that even top entertainment reporters couldn’t. She decided to stop while she was ahead. "One last question: Is《Rosabella》based on a real person?"
Bian Xu gave her a sidelong glance. "Is that really important?"
"Of course! If you’d just mentioned the real inspiration back in interviews, this whole misunderstanding could’ve been avoided."
Sometimes, Bian Xu thought the audience was kind of funny.
All he did was pass by a dance school in Beicheng one winter night four years ago, saw a young girl dancing ballet from afar, and went home to write a song.
He never even learned her name. Meanwhile, netizens had been obsessing over it for years.
"There was someone real. I don’t know her."
"Huh? You don’t know her?"
Bian Xu gave a soft snort. "People sure have time—going around trying to get to know every stranger they see."
Cheng Nuo awkwardly rubbed her nose at the burn.
Liang Yixuan frowned and set down her chopsticks, her expression blank. "Someone like Mr. Bian must be perpetually single, huh?"
Bian Xu raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"
"I just think," Liang Yixuan smiled, "if you’d asked for her number back then instead of rushing home to write a song, maybe you wouldn’t need a dating show to find someone now."
Bian Xu: "…"
