Became a National Couple with My Ex Chapter 49: The Final Confession Day
After hearing the truth from Xiao Jie, Liang Yixuan couldn’t stop thinking about how Bian Xu had seen her, and their relationship, during the past year under such a huge misunderstanding.
It felt like her entire impression of Bian Xu had been shattered. She kept second-guessing everything, going over all the things that had happened between thi, breaking thi down, then trying to piece thi back together again to see who Bian Xu really was.
And at this very moment—reading those two sentences—she finally understood Bian Xu, and everything that had happened between thi.
Why he had asked her, wounded and defensive, "What do you take me for?"
Why he had said, with such certainty, "If you don’t care, why should I bother explaining?"
Why he had awkwardly confessed to her, "I thought you didn’t care about me, so I tried not to care about you either."
She used to think he joined the show driven by pride and the desire to win. But now, she realized—he had been going through a painful inner struggle all along.
Maybe more than anyone else, he had wanted to believe his feelings for her were just competitiveness or ego.
That way, if his passion was met with indifference, if his pride was hurt, he could just walk away—cut her off without hesitation, and return to his high pedestal.
But he didn’t.
He had fought himself and, in the end, realized—he loved her.
He resented her for using him as a stepping stone in her career. He despised how twisted their relationship had become.
But still—he loved her.
And he knew there were only two ways to free himself from this painful contradiction: either stop loving her, or let go of the resentment.
When he found that he couldn’t stop loving her, he had no choice but to give up the resentment.
That’s why, after their argument at the dance center, even though he disappeared for a long time, he eventually came back late that night—to the villa—and told her, "I’m an idiot."
Liang Yixuan slowly moved her fingers away from the corner of the book and saw the date written below those lines. It was the day after her grandmother had been discharged from the hospital.
It was that same weekend when, after being "driven crazy by a self-righteous idiot who doesn’t know how to talk," as he’d said at the hospital, he had come back to filming just to ease her burden, staying home while the other guests went out on dates.
It was on that quiet day that he had written those words.
Liang Yixuan took a deep, shaky breath and gently closed the book.
She thought she finally understood why Bian Xu had never brought up what he overheard behind that wall.
Because he knew how hard her situation with her mother was, and he didn’t want guilt to be another weight on her shoulders—not when she was with him.
But strangely enough, even after learning the full story, her first feeling wasn’t guilt.
It was the sudden miory of a quote from Pride and Prejudice:
"To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love… But to hide your feelings too deeply could cost you everything. If a woman hides her love for too long, she might lose her chance altogether."
And her very first thought was—She almost lost him.
When Bian Xu came back to his suite on the third floor from the director’s control room, Lu Yuan had already finished packing his luggage.
Seeing him return, Lu Yuan immediately reported, "Boss, Miss Liang came by to see you earlier."
Bian Xu raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Did she say what for?"
"She didn’t say. She just sat on the sofa for a while and read a book. Then she said she had to pack her own stuff and went downstairs."
"What book?"
Lu Yuan scratched his head. "I didn’t look closely…"
Bian Xu thought for a moment, then turned and headed down to the second floor. He knocked on Liang Yixuan’s door.
It was Cheng Nuo who answered.
"Yixuan’s in the shower," she said before he could even ask.
Bian Xu glanced toward the brightly lit bathroom inside the room. "I’ll wait for her outside."
Cheng Nuo pointed at the box at her feet. "Well, since you’re just waiting around, why not pick a few books to take with you?"
Bian Xu was about to say "No," but suddenly paused. "Those books on the living room shelf—are they yours?"
Cheng Nuo nodded.
She had gradually brought some light reading books to share with everyone. What she hadn’t expected was that while it felt good to pass time that way, going back home would be a nightmare—before she realized it, she had accumulated too many books to carry back. So tonight, she seized the chance to hand out a few.
Bian Xu thought of the book Of Human Bondage that was still in his room and pointed upstairs.
"There’s one in my room."
Cheng Nuo waved her hands. "Please don’t return that to me—just keep it as a miento!"
Bian Xu didn’t say anything. He lowered his gaze, deep in thought, and just as he started to sense something was off, he heard a click.
The bathroom door opened, and Liang Yixuan walked out.
Bian Xu turned his head to look at her. "You were looking for me?"
Liang Yixuan paused in the middle of drying her hair and stood still, looking at him from a distance.
Noticing the changing expression on her face, Bian Xu grew serious. "What is it?"
Liang Yixuan slowly walked over. "Nothing."
Bian Xu shook his head. "There’s something."
Liang Yixuan pressed her lips together, then nodded and gave in. "There was something… but for now, it’s nothing."
Bian Xu frowned.
"I’ll tell you tomorrow."
"Liang Yixuan, are you purposely trying to keep me up all night?"
Liang Yixuan stared at him silently, then smiled and sighed. She raised her index finger and gently tapped the space between his furrowed brows. "Haven’t there already been plenty of sleepless nights because of me?"
The next evening at 7:00 PM, Liang Yixuan was spacing out in her rarely used apartment in Xijiang Huacheng when she received a call from the production team. They told her the filming crew’s car was already downstairs.
The final confession segment wasn’t limited to the villa in the northern suburbs. Each guest could choose any location in Nanhua City as their confession site.
According to the rules, the "confession line" would officially open at 7:30 PM. At that time, the guests would receive the phone number of the person they wanted to confess to from the production team and call to invite thi to the chosen location.
Liang Yixuan picked up the rectangular gift box she had carefully wrapped on her nightstand, went downstairs, and got into the crew’s SUV. She told the driver, "Please head to the dance center, thank you."
The car left the neighborhood and arrived at the dance center twenty minutes later.
Holding the box in her arms, Liang Yixuan stepped out of the car and walked inside. She made her way through the dimly lit theater, switched on a ceiling light in the corner, stood under it, and checked the time on her phone—it was exactly 7:30 PM.
Confession time had arrived.
She didn’t need to ask the production team for Bian Xu’s number.
That number had been quietly sitting on her blocklist—for more than two months.
Liang Yixuan opened the blocklist, selected Bian Xu’s number, and hovered her finger over the "riove" button, taking deep breaths.
Just then, an unknown number started calling.
She was startled, then hesitantly answered and held the phone to her ear.
"It’s Shen Ji," came the voice from the other end.
Liang Yixuan blinked, still processing it, when Shen Ji explained with a chuckle, "No hidden meaning. The production team asked me to make this call to add some suspense for the editing, so I’m just playing along."
"You really follow the rules to the letter," Liang Yixuan replied, laughing too.
Shen Ji sighed, a bit helpless. "Yeah, but you… after filming for over a month, you sei different now."
Liang Yixuan nodded, then riibered he couldn’t see her, and was just about to speak when Shen Ji continued, "Alright, my task is done. I won’t take up your line any longer. Yixuan, I hope you make a brave decision tonight, and I wish you a future filled with good luck and success."
Liang Yixuan glanced down at the box in her arms and softly replied, "Then I wish you’ll meet someone soon—someone who changes you too, someone who breaks your rules and framework."
Shen Ji gave a short laugh. "Thank you."
After hanging up, Liang Yixuan exhaled slowly toward the phone screen, reopened her blocklist, and once again hovered her finger over the "riove" button.
Just as she was about to tap it, she suddenly heard a door open.
She looked up and saw the grand red-and-gold double doors of the theater being pulled open from the outside.
Bright light spilled into the dim space.
Bian Xu stepped through the doors and walked toward her, one step at a time—
Just like he once had, at her lowest moment, when he pushed open the double doors of the Lanchen Tianfu recording room, bringing light in with him, and recited that line from the movie: Solifetimeinaminute.
Liang Yixuan watched as the person drawing closer to her held a bouquet of white roses. Looking at him, she finally understood the meaning behind that movie line again.
There are many good people in the world, but very few can make you laugh and cry.
You can choose a simple, ordinary life— live it peacefully, without losing sleep over anyone, without your heart tied up in knots.
But at the same time, you also lose the chance to feel your heart race wildly for someone, to feel your blood rush with excitient.
Life has never been about having it all.
If you choose charm, you have to accept the risks.
If you choose passion, you have to accept the turbulence.
If you dare to reach for the moon, you must also have the courage to stand alongside it.
And now, the moon was right in front of her.
Her moon wasn’t cold and desolate like she once thought.
When she ran toward her moon— her moon was running toward her, too.
It had taken thi an entire year, maybe even four whole years, to finally reach this moment— a moment where they could stand face to face as equals.
She thought: If she didn’t try one more time, she would regret it for the rest of her life.
Bian Xu stopped in front of her with the bouquet of white roses, raising his eyebrows with a confident smile.
It was as if he were saying: Even if he couldn’t reach her by phone, as long as he wanted to find her, he would always find a way.
Liang Yixuan lowered her eyes and smiled.
When she looked up again, the hesitation in her expression had disappeared.
"Can I go first?" she asked, looking him in the eye.
Bian Xu had already guessed part of it the night before. He nodded.
"You read the book?"
"Yeah. That’s why I want to show you something, too."
Bian Xu glanced at the box she was holding.
Liang Yixuan held the box carefully in both hands.
"There’s something heavy inside this box," she said seriously. "I always thought I would never let anyone open it. But tonight, I want to hand it over and take a chance—a gamble."
Bian Xu’s brows slowly furrowed.
"I can’t accept your bouquet just yet."
Liang Yixuan took a deep breath and offered him the box.
"But if, after feeling its weight, you’re still willing to accept it, and you’re also willing to offer something of equal weight in return, so that we can make a fair exchange between equals…"
She smiled.
"…then you know where to find me. When that time comes— bring the roses and come find me."
