Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 50: The Sea Hidden Within the Spiritual Core
Merged into the Sea of Consciousness?
Ye Su didn’t react for a long time after hearing that phrase, until Yu Shoumen directly sent her a video message.
She turned the communication jade disc to the side, and Yu Shoumen’s face immediately appeared on it.
Yu Fenghai looked at Ye Su and the first thing he said was, "There’s a record in an old text: ‘Those born with divine sense, their spiritual core holds a sea. No Golden Core. Against the Dao. Many tribulations.’"
The higher one’s cultivation, the more tribulations they face. From the sound of it, she would face more lightning tribulations than normal cultivators at each stage?
Ye Su asked, "Elder Yu, what book is that from?"
"A miscellaneous text I read a long time ago. It's long lost," Yu Fenghai continued. "Since ancient times, there have only been three documented cultivators with innate divine sense. One was struck dead by lightning during the Nascent Soul stage, another died at the Soul Transformation stage, and only one reached the late Mahayana stage—just one step away from transcending."
"Elder Yu, who was that Mahayana-stage expert? Where is he now?" Ye Su asked.
"Lu Jue, former first disciple of the Kunlun Sect," Yu Fenghai added. "You wouldn’t know him."
But she did know who Lu Jue was.
He was the father of the male lead. Back then, he first fell in love with the Saintess of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Sect, then later cultivated dual techniques with a demon lord. When everything was exposed, Lu Jue and the Saintess sought out the demon lord and asked her to let go.
After that… the demon lord perished along with them.
All three of them died together—it had been a huge scandal back then. But under pressure from the Kunlun Sect and the Ten Thousand Buddhas Sect, the incident was silenced within the cultivation world.
"Elder Yu, why can’t I tell anyone else about this?" Ye Su wanted to understand. The sect leader clearly didn’t know about her Golden Core merging into her sea of consciousness, so obviously not everyone in the cultivation world was aware of people with innate divine sense.
"There were three that were recorded—but two others weren’t officially documented," Yu Fenghai replied bluntly. "The sea of consciousness of someone with divine sense can be harvested to nourish others’ divine minds."
Ye Su’s expression instantly darkened upon hearing this. From the Nascent Soul stage onward, spiritual sense evolves into divine sense—it can leave the body, explore the heavens, and dive into the seas.
But strengthening divine sense is incredibly difficult. The only recognized way is to continually advance in cultivation.
If there were a shortcut like harvesting someone else’s divine sense, then she could easily become a tool—nothing more than a cultivation resource.
Yu Fenghai, sensing her shift in expression, added, "Not many people know about innate divine sense, so you don’t need to worry too much for now."
Looking at the still-young disciple from Qianji Sect on the other side, he sighed internally, then gave her a final warning: "Any talisman, tool, or artifact that can resist lightning tribulations… will be your chance to survive in the future."
"Understood, Elder Yu. I’ll try to make them myself," Ye Su replied.
Yu Fenghai: "…"
He almost forgot—this disciple was quite gifted in crafting tools and making talismans.
He told Ye Su everything he knew about those with divine sense. As for the rest, he didn’t know either—she would have to figure it out on her own.
……
After shutting off the communication jade disc, Ye Su began to look inward toward her spiritual core. She didn’t sense much change in her spiritual awareness. The sea of consciousness flowing below still couldn’t be approached—she could only observe it from afar.
She withdrew her spiritual awareness, no longer examining her spiritual core, and instead took out the two torn pages. Mimicking You Fushi’s movements, she fit the two pieces of the torn talisman pages together and focused her gaze on them.
After the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Ye Su opened her eyes again and found herself in absolute darkness.
This time, she waited inside for a long while, but the golden glowing talismans didn’t appear like before.
There were still a few talismans left unpainted, but Ye Su had already etched their forms into her memory from the first time she saw them.
As she began to draw again, time seemed to stretch endlessly within the dark realm. Ye Su didn’t feel tired. She painted the same talisman over and over, until she completed one in full.
Something within the realm seemed to begin changing. The talisman she had finished didn’t fly toward her this time. Instead, it slowly retreated, eventually coming to a stop and transforming into a stream of light. Rather than being consumed by the darkness, it lit up a section of a single wall.
The wall was one zhang wide and seven chi tall, radiating a soft golden glow that stood out starkly in the dark world.
Ye Su’s gaze settled on the lit section of the wall, and she stepped toward it.
As she got close enough to see what was engraved on the surface, Ye Su couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile.
—It was a wall of talismans, covered in drawings of various sigils.
Ye Su lifted her head and raised a hand, tapping the topmost talisman on the wall. The moment she touched it, the talisman vanished. Then, as if someone invisible had appeared, the steps to drawing that talisman were demonstrated in the air. Alongside the display, a line of vertical text appeared.
【Earth-Burrowing Talisman: Activates a light shield. Burrows into the ground like a mud-dragon. Extremely fast.】
Ye Su reached out and tapped the completed talisman. It backed away and returned to the wall, looking no different from the others.
She tapped the talisman again. Once the demonstration was finished, she released her spiritual energy and tried to draw the talisman herself, following what she had seen.
After she finished, her version of the talisman collided with the original one. Finally, the first talisman on the wall dimmed.
Ye Su, who had been frustrated about having no new talismans to study—forced to flip through beginner talisman manuals day after day—suddenly felt like she was back in Qianji Sect’s scripture library.
She reached out and tapped each talisman one by one. She had to study each and then try drawing them herself.
It was impossible to tell how much time passed in the dark realm. Only when the entire wall dimmed completely did Ye Su finally snap out of her trance.
This time, Ye Su didn’t passively exit. She simply thought to herself that she wanted to leave—and she instantly woke up.
That wall had held hundreds of talismans—all foundational techniques used by talisman cultivators. Ye Su had drawn them all in the dark realm. She didn’t rest much afterward. Instead, she reached into her qiankun bag, pulled out a handful of fasting pills, and swallowed them.
The next moment, she was standing in front of her desk, already beginning to draw talismans.
……
"Senior Sister." Xia Er knocked on the door from outside. "We're about to leave."
Xu Chengyu, along with Ye Su and Lü Jiu, would be staying behind to wait for the Wasteland Secret Realm to open. So Ming Liu Sha, Xiyu, and Xia Er could get ready to head to the Sword Sect.
Ye Su walked out of her room. "You're leaving today?"
"The Sword Sect is holding its sword trials this afternoon. Our little and fifth junior brothers will be going up to represent the Bahuang Peak, so we figured we could make it just in time," Xia Er said, rubbing his hands together, visibly excited. "The Sword Sect even prepared teleportation scrolls for us."
Teleportation scrolls were much more refined than teleportation arrays—and they could be carried around at all times.
Everyone gathered in Xu Chengyu's room. When he saw Ye Su arrive, he asked, "Is Young Master You coming with us to the Sword Sect, or staying here?"
"He's entering the secret realm with us." Ye Su looked around the room but didn’t see You Fushi. He was probably still resting in his room.
Over the past few days, while Ye Su had been practicing talismans in the dark realm, You Fushi had silently broken through to the Golden Core stage.
Xu Chengyu had already started feeling suspicious of You Fushi several times.
"Take these talismans." Ye Su pulled out several stacks of talisman papers and handed them to Ming Liu Sha. She explained the functions of each one so everyone could divide them up accordingly.
Ma Congqiu and Zhou Yun, watching from the side, were left speechless. They had known Ye Su could draw talismans, but for her to casually pull out so many at once—it was anything but ordinary.
"Are these new talismans you learned?" Xu Chengyu asked.
Ye Su nodded. "I bought quite a few talisman manuals at the auction before. I read through them all. Some of the talismans in there were really good."
Ma Congqiu gave a big thumbs-up beside her. "I always thought talisman cultivators would be drained after drawing just a few, but now it looks like those people were just weak."
Looking at Ye Su again, there really was no sign she had drawn that many talismans.
"If you step into this scroll, you’ll be directly teleported to the Sword Sect. You’ll definitely make it in time for the sword trials this afternoon." Xu Chengyu pulled out a light blue scroll from his qiankun bag and tossed it upward. The scroll unfurled and hovered in midair, one end dangling close to the ground.
"Senior Sister, we’re off." Xiyu turned to say to Ye Su.
"Don’t forget to keep up your artifact forging at the Sword Sect," Ye Su reminded her three junior disciples. "And don’t limit yourselves to just one type of magical tool."
"Got it…" Ming Liu Sha replied slowly.
The three of them walked toward the scroll one after another. As the last, Ming Liu Sha, stepped in, the entire scroll instantly vanished from sight.
"They’ll reach the Sword Sect very soon," Xu Chengyu added, sensing that Ye Su might be a little concerned.
Ye Su nodded to show she understood. "For the time being, I’ll mostly be staying at the inn. If anything urgent comes up, feel free to come straight to my room."
She wanted to return to the inner realm and see what the remaining glowing talismans corresponded to—were they also part of the talisman wall?
