Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 68: Overindulgence
There were many ways to travel in the cultivation world: sword-riding, flying beasts, scrolls, teleportation arrays, and flying boats.
The first two offered the most freedom. Scrolls and teleportation arrays usually had restrictions and fixed destinations. As for flying boats… they were mostly used by major sects for big events.
For example, in the upcoming sect competition, other sects heading to Kunlun would likely use flying boats to transport their disciples. It was a matter of prestige.
This was Ye Su’s first time using a teleportation array, and the experience felt quite strange to her.
Scrolls were faster than teleportation arrays, they could directly send a person to the destination while teleportation arrays were noticeably slower.
After handing over their spirit stones, they stood inside the array. The cultivators responsible for activating it were all at least at the Soul Transformation stage, the spirit stones were their payment.
Once the array was activated, a layer of illusory light rose from the ground, enveloping everyone, including the three cultivators powering the array.
Ye Su felt her vision blur. The space around them began to twist and ripple, as if they were traveling through dimensions. But it moved so quickly she couldn’t make out anything around them.
"Teleportation arrays use formations to tear through space and move to a destination," Xu Chengyu explained, seeing her looking around. "Scrolls, on the other hand, are already imbued with a tear in space created by a powerful cultivator, stepping in takes you straight there."
That was also why scrolls were more precious.
Because many people could create formation arrays, but scrolls could usually only be made by cultivators at the Mahayana stage.
Even in major sects, Mahayana cultivators held prominent status and wouldn’t casually make scrolls unless it was for their own disciples.
Ye Su nodded thoughtfully, her gaze falling on the three Soul Transformation cultivators within the array, she was starting to understand.
This teleportation array was somewhat like a magical tool. The cultivators powering it were like operators, using the tool to break through space and carry them to their destination.
Teleportation arrays were faster than sword-riding and could transport over a thousand people at once. It took about a day for them to arrive outside Tushou City.
"We’ve arrived." The cultivator overseeing the teleportation only handled one trip before rotating shifts with others guarding Tushou City.
Ma Congqiu walked to the city gate, feeling nostalgic. "We’re finally back."
In past trips, he didn’t feel this strongly. But after nearly dying in the Desolate City Secret Realm, he missed Sword Sect deeply.
"We originally planned to train in the secret realm, but our cultivation levels didn’t improve at all," Zhou Yun sighed. "We’re going to end up at the bottom of the rankings in the sect competition."
Xu Chengyu smiled and offered reassurance. "There’s still more than a year left. No one’s cultivation can leap by the month."
"Senior Brother is right." Zhou Yun suddenly perked up. "Then I’ll keep working hard. Even Lian Lian advanced to the mid Nascent Soul stage! I’m going to surpass her!"
"Lian Lian surpassed even Senior Brother in one go," Ma Congqiu chimed in, twisting the knife. "You? That’s hard."
Zhou Yun turned and glared at him. "You’re so annoying!"
"Let’s go," Xu Chengyu said, smiling as he watched the two bicker. "Time to return to the sect."
"Okay."
They both answered at once and followed him into Tushou City.
Ye Su walked behind them, then turned to look at You Fushi, who didn’t want to walk. She reached out and pulled him along. "Flying with swords isn’t allowed inside Tushou City."
They had stood in the teleportation array for a whole day, tough for her little junior brother, who was used to sitting or lying down all the time.
There were many people traveling from Guizong City to Tushou City. To accommodate everyone, the teleportation array had everyone standing, with only about a fist’s space between them.
You Fushi had tried to get Ye Su to sit on the ground with him, but it wasn’t possible. Of course, he only wanted to sit so he could tug on his senior sister’s robe.
"When we have money, I’ll get you a big flying boat of your own," Ye Su made a bold promise.
You Fushi looked up at her, and only then was he reluctantly willing to follow her into the city.
……
Just as Xu Chengyu arrived at the foot of Sword Sect's mountain gate, the entire sect already knew that Senior Brother was back. Someone came running from afar, shouting.
"Senior Sister!"
"Senior Brother!"
A crowd rushed down the mountain in the distance, some riding swords in midair, others running along the paths.
Surprisingly, the first to arrive wasn’t a disciple of Sword Sect, but Yi Xuan, flying down on his sword.
From far away, those at the mountain gate could see Ming Liu Sha clinging to Yi Xuan’s sword handle with both hands, Xiyu hugging Ming Liu Sha’s legs, and Xia Er tightly wrapped around Xiyu’s legs. The three of them strung together like candied hawthorns on a stick, swaying as they came.
In the middle of it, Ming Liu Sha even pulled out a clearly hand-drawn speed charm by Ye Su and slapped it onto Yi Xuan’s sword.
Ye Su clearly saw Yi Xuan’s sword suddenly lurch forward, and he had to spread his arms wide just to barely keep his balance.
Yi Xuan was the first to land in front of them. After putting away his sword, he didn’t greet anyone. He simply looked at Ye Su for a moment and then said, "I’ve advanced to the late Core Formation stage."
Zhou Yun immediately poked Xu Chengyu and said, "Senior Brother, some people really do level up by the month."
Xu Chengyu: "…" That’s the kind of person that makes you feel bad by comparison. Just like cheap goods are embarrassed when placed next to quality ones.
"I’ve also reached the Core Formation stage!" Xia Er quickly added.
"Me too!" Xiyu raised her hand. "Though just the early stage."
"Core… For… Ma… Tion… Early… Stage…" Ming Liu Sha said slowly.
Ma Congqiu was completely stunned. "We went out on a training trip and didn’t even level up, but you guys progressed this fast? What did you do?"
"We refined tons of magical tools," Xia Er said excitedly. "Sword Sect is full of spiritual energy. You can cultivate the moment you wake up, and even while you sleep, you’re still absorbing energy."
Ye Su looked at her junior siblings and noticed the dark circles under all their eyes, they clearly hadn’t rested in a long time.
"Go back and get a good rest tonight," Ye Su said to Ming Liu Sha and the others. "There’s no need to rush so much."
"Senior Brother, you’ve returned from the Desolate City Secret Realm!" The rest of the Sword Sect disciples arrived as well.
Naturally, the group split into two. Ye Su nodded to Xu Chengyu, reached for You Fushi’s hand, and led her junior brothers and sisters back into the sect.
Yi Xuan followed silently behind them, saying nothing more.
"Late Core Formation, you’re almost at the Nascent Soul stage," Ye Su said halfway up the mountain, turning back to ask Yi Xuan, "Will you participate in the sect competition?"
Yi Xuan looked up at her. "...Yes."
"Perfect. I’m joining too," Ye Su continued. "But we’ll need to get access passes first."
Tushou City, Guizong City, and others were all in the Eastern region. They’d have to compete for one of a thousand available spots.
"Mm."
Ming Liu Sha, Xiyu, and Xia Er automatically slowed down to walk behind, giving space for Yi Xuan to move up beside Ye Su on her left.
"How’s your sword training going?" Ye Su tilted her head and asked.
Yi Xuan lowered his eyes and stared at the stone path beneath his feet. "Second Master said it’s decent."
"Second Master— Xin Shenzi?" Ye Su asked, surprised.
"Mm."
The two kept talking. Meanwhile, You Fushi, who was holding Ye Su’s right hand, wasn’t very happy. This mortal was being far too chatty today.
He glanced sideways at Yi Xuan, who looked annoyingly flashy ugly!
Yi Xuan sensed something and turned his head, spotting the new junior disciple that their Master had recently taken in, staring at him. His gaze landed on Ye Su holding You Fushi’s hand, and a flicker of mockery passed through his eyes.
This new little junior seemed quite close to their Senior Sister even more so than any of the other senior disciples.
"Did little junior brother hurt his hand?" Yi Xuan asked, pretending not to understand.
"What?" Ye Su looked back, puzzled. Then she followed his gaze and realized he was talking about You Fushi. "Little junior stood all day and got tired."
Yi Xuan looked utterly confused. Cultivators… getting tired? From standing?
"Senior Sister, spoiling him like this won’t help his cultivation," Yi Xuan said meaningfully.
Ye Su fell silent. "…"
