I Have an Immortal Emperor Uncle Who Farms at Home Chapter 7: Shanjiao Village
After paying the elderly woman’s medical fees, the group learned her name was Jiang Shuping.
Soon after, Yang Hu drove off from the medical center with Jiang Shuping and Yang Lili.
Meanwhile, Ye Fan followed closely behind in a tricycle, carrying Ye Qingcheng and Nuonuo, heading to Jiang Shuping’s home.
Before long, under Jiang Shuping’s guidance, they arrived at a village.
The village was named *Shanjiao Village, just like its name suggests, it was surrounded by mountains and the entire village sat nestled beneath them.
(Note: *Shanjiao 山脚 - Foothill)
There was only a single winding road connecting it to the outside world. The whole place felt like it had been forgotten by the rest of the world.
Driving through the village entrance, Yang Hu soon sensed something was off. There were easily twenty to thirty houses, yet barely anyone was seen on the roads.
Feeling puzzled, Yang Hu asked Jiang Shuping, "Auntie Jiang, what’s going on with Shanjiao Village? Why aren’t there any people around?"
Sigh. Jiang Shuping let out a long sigh and replied, "It’s all because of the Wang family."
"What? Because of the Wang family?"
The moment Yang Hu heard it was the Wang family, his expression tightened.
Others might not know about the Wang family, but having fought his way through the business world, Yang Hu knew them very well.
In fact, he even suspected that the man in black who attacked him before was sent by the Wang family.
Yang Hu’s company chairman—Li Wen, head of the Li family, was a major business figure. The Li family’s corporate influence covered all of Laiyang Town and even extended to surrounding areas.
The Wang family that Jiang Shuping spoke of was the second largest corporate power in Laiyang. Every year, the Li and Wang families clashed over business.
"Yes," Jiang Shuping said. "That Wang-something guy said he wants to redevelop the whole village into a tourist attraction."
"Wang Haoming?"
Jiang Shuping hadn’t remembered the name at first, but with Yang Hu’s prompt, she immediately confirmed, "Yes, that’s it, Wang Haoming."
Once confirmed, Yang Hu began to think deeply. So it really is Wang Haoming. But from what I know, he’s just a spoiled rich kid who acts recklessly, how could he have the brains to develop this area?
Thinking more carefully, perhaps it was one of Wang Haoming’s elders leading the project. After all, the scenery here really was ideal for a tourism site.
"Well, the project itself isn’t bad. The scenery is beautiful, and you could all receive good compensation for relocation," Yang Hu said.
At the mention of relocation compensation, Jiang Shuping let out another sigh and said helplessly, "Compensation? They’d never give us compensation."
"They’re not offering compensation? And you still agreed to move?"
Yang Hu was clearly angry, he found the Wang family’s behavior absolutely disgraceful.
"How could we agree? This is our hometown where we’ve lived all our lives. Of course we didn’t agree to move. But…"
At that point, Jiang Shuping swallowed her words.
"Auntie Jiang, but what?" Yang Hu asked.
"But since we refused, they started threatening the villagers. Especially at night, they’d send people to the village entrance making ghostly howls and wails. The children were nearly scared out of their minds."
Now it made sense to Yang Hu why the village seemed deserted people probably couldn’t take the threats anymore and had moved out.
Yang Lili, visibly upset, scowled and cursed, "Disgusting. That Wang Haoming is no better than a beast!"
"Shanjiao Village used to be so lively," Jiang Shuping continued. "But ever since that Wang Haoming showed up a month ago, everything’s changed."
Yang Hu then asked, "So, Auntie Jiang, what are you planning to do next?"
Though Wang Haoming kept harassing them day and night, he couldn’t shake her resolve to protect her home. "Even if I die, I’ll die here with my husband."
……
After driving for a while, a stone wall appeared in front of Yang Hu’s car.
"Turn left up ahead, that’s where my house is," Jiang Shuping said, pointing toward the stone wall.
……
Finally, the group arrived at Jiang Shuping’s home.
As soon as he got out of the car, Yang Hu immediately understood why Jiang Shuping was so determined to leave the medical center and refused to stay hospitalized, it was because she truly couldn’t afford it.
The house in front of them could only be described as run-down and dilapidated. The tiles on the roof were cracked and falling apart, and inside, parts of the structure were covered with tarps.
Under the eaves, piles of junk that Jiang Shuping and Song Lianjun had collected over the years were stacked up.
"I’m sorry… this is all we have at home, so I can’t really invite you in to sit," Jiang Shuping said, looking at Ye Fan and the others with deep apology in her voice.
"It’s alright, Grandma. Don’t worry about it. Now that we’ve brought you home, it’s time for us to go," Ye Qingcheng gently said, holding Jiang Shuping’s hand.
"Yes, Grandma, we should get going."
Cough cough…
Just then, a fit of urgent coughing came from inside the house.
Seeing this, Jiang Shuping immediately rushed inside, and Ye Fan and the others quickly followed her. Ye Qingcheng carried Nuonuo in her arms and also went in.
As soon as they entered, they saw Jiang Shuping repeatedly patting Song Lianjun on the back while he coughed up blood violently.
Seeing this, Ye Qingcheng quickly covered Nuonuo’s eyes and carried her back outside. After all, she was still a child, and shouldn’t be seeing something like this.
"Uncle Song, what illness does he have?"
Yang Hu moved closer to observe Song Lianjun carefully, then asked in confusion.
"This is…"
But when asked what illness Song Lianjun had, Jiang Shuping hesitated and stammered for a long time without answering, as if hiding something.
After a moment of hesitation, she finally lowered her voice and said, "Late-stage lung cancer."
"If it’s really late-stage lung cancer… I’d say he doesn’t have much time left," Yang Hu said, shaking his head. He didn’t want to sugarcoat it, so he spoke frankly.
However, Ye Fan didn’t agree. The old man in front of him wasn’t suffering from lung cancer, his internal organs had been shattered by force.
Moreover, judging by the condition of his bones and meridians, although there was no spiritual energy left in his body, Ye Fan was certain that this man was a cultivator, and not just any cultivator. He had once been at the Foundation Establishment stage.
Still, Ye Fan didn’t plan to expose the truth. He didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business.
Even so, he couldn’t just stand by and watch him die. Especially since Jiang Shuping had been kind to them and had even gotten slapped by Wang Scarface because of them earlier that day.
So, after thinking for a bit, Ye Fan said, "Grandma, I have a few heads of Chinese cabbage here. Let’s cook some for Uncle Song later."
Yang Hu’s eyes lit up as well. "Why didn’t I think of that?" Then he looked at Jiang Shuping and said, "Aunt Jiang, believe me, this cabbage might actually help Uncle Song."
"This cabbage…"
Hearing the two of them talk, Jiang Shuping naturally didn’t believe it. She had lived most of her life and never heard of cabbage being anything special.
However, she still accepted Ye Fan’s kind gesture and said, "Thank you, young man."
……
After everything was properly arranged, the group left Shanjiao Village.
On the way back to Ping'an Village—
"Ye Fan, that Grandma Jiang is really pitiful," Ye Qingcheng said.
Looking at his sister’s compassionate nature, Ye Fan didn’t know what to say. With a heart as kind and selfless as hers, she was bound to suffer a lot of setbacks on a cultivation continent like Xuanhuan.
"Alright, sis, there are too many pitiful people in the world. You don’t have to care about every single one of them."
"Sigh, I guess that’s true… but I still feel kind of bad…"
……
Elsewhere, Yang Hu was driving Yang Lili toward Laiyang Town. However, the first place he headed to wasn’t home, it was the Ling family’s estate.
Just as the car exited Shanjiao Village, Yang Hu immediately called his superior—Ling Wen.
"Chairman Ling, here’s what happened…"
"Seems like the Wang family does have some vision. Too bad their product just isn’t good enough," Ling Wen said after a brief pause. "Manager Yang, are you interested in taking over Shanjiao Village?"
Yang Hu had expected this. He knew that once he brought it up, Ling Wen would definitely be interested. If this project was developed well, the returns could easily start at tens of millions.
"Chairman Ling, of course I’m interested, but…"
Yang Hu then explained the situation with Jiang Shuping and the conditions in Shanjiao Village.
After listening, Ling Wen remained silent on the other end of the line for quite a while. Then he said only one thing: "Come to the corporate office first, we’ll work out a strategy."
