Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 78: Selling Weapon in Public
"Sell it to me! I want it!" The young talisman cultivator struggled to climb out and clung to the edge of the arena stage, looking up at Ye Su and asking, "What kind of magical artifact is this? How is it so powerful?"
Ye Su jumped down with the rocket launcher on her shoulder and patted the barrel. "It’s a talisman cannon. There's a small enhanced array inscribed inside. You load talismans into it, and the firing effect is doubled."
The one she fired earlier was an explosive talisman. After being boosted by the talisman cannon, it was powerful enough to blast her opponent straight off the stage.
"How many times can the array be used?" The young man was also a talisman cultivator and understood that talismans have limited use.
"The array is inscribed using high-quality cinnabar, it should last for at least ten uses," Ye Su replied, patting the cannon again. "Once it wears out, you just load more talismans to re-form the array."
She then drew out the required talismans for the array and showed him how it worked.
Even though the cannon had a usage limit, the young cultivator still took out a bag of spirit stones and tossed it to Ye Su. "Alright, I’ll buy it."
Ye Su took the bag, counted it quickly, and once she confirmed the amount was correct, handed the cannon over to him. "Pleasure doing business."
After the man left carrying his cannon, Ye Su tossed the bag of spirit stones to Ming Liu Sha, who had just walked over. "Hold onto it."
"That talisman cannon just now looked really amazing," Xia Er said with admiration all over his face. "Senior Sister is incredible, as always!"
"Want one? I’ll make one for each of you next time." Ye Su took out her jade slip and glanced at it, her score had already increased to two points. "I'm going back to compete again."
Ye Su wasn’t a sword cultivator and didn’t learn sword techniques, but she had crafted plenty of magical artifacts. She used these to handle her opponents, and once they were knocked off the stage, she’d start promoting the artifacts right there on the platform.
Every time she won, she would do a little sales pitch on stage, proving her words true with results.
Everyone here wanted to win. After seeing the artifacts work firsthand, they all rushed to buy them. After all, one more artifact meant one more chance at victory.
"Tooth Spike, follows the user’s intent to attack, versatile in use. Just now it split into a hundred pieces, forming a nail net to trap the enemy. Not expensive, just 48,000 mid-grade spirit stones."
"Feather Dart—easy to carry, highly lethal. Take it home for 39,900 mid-grade spirit stones. Fellow disciples will praise you when they see it."
"Crying Ring, no need to learn musical sound attacks. Just strike it a few times to disturb your opponent’s hearing and emotions. Only 66,000 mid-grade spirit stones. Become the next musical combat genius."
It had to be said, Senior Sister Ye’s live sales skills were top-tier.
Within ten days, word had spread across the entire eastern competition area about someone selling magical artifacts on stage. The best part? The people who bought from her were actually seeing their scores shoot up.
……
"Do you sell swords?"
Ye Su had just come out today and hadn’t even picked an arena stage when a young woman stopped her, holding a broken sword and asking anxiously.
"Swords..." Ye Su turned to look at Xia Er. "Do we have any swords?"
"We do!" Xia Er immediately pulled out a bunch of swords from his qiankun bag. "Fellow cultivator, which one would you like?"
The young female cultivator: "..."
She suddenly felt a bit of regret.
She had come out early to compete and happened to run into a powerful opponent, her sword was broken in the fight.
She’d heard someone nearby was selling magical artifacts that were all really good, so instead of going straight to a full-service shop in the city, she waited around, hoping to buy directly from the seller.
But now… it didn’t feel very reliable.
Xia Er noticed the broken sword in her hand. "If you don’t mind, you can hand the sword over and let me take a look."
With no better option, the young woman handed him the broken sword. "I just want a sword that feels right."
"No problem." Xia Er carefully examined the worn marks on the hilt and then looked over the sword. Finally, he picked out two swords. "Fellow cultivator, try these two."
The young woman tried a few moves with the swords in an open area. To her surprise, they felt quite good in her hand—though still slightly unfamiliar.
"This one," she said, choosing one of them. She figured she’d test it out first and if it didn’t work out, she could always go to a proper shop later.
But Xia Er took the sword back again. "Let me adjust the hilt a little, it might suit you better."
"Adjust it?" The young woman was surprised. She’d never heard of modifying a finished sword.
"We weapon refiners can do that," Xia Er said, then called over to Ye Su and the others before heading to a corner. He began adjusting the sword hilt with spiritual fire, carefully restoring the worn parts.
An hour later, the young woman left with a delighted smile and after that, even more people came looking to buy swords from them.
Ye Su had already fought five matches and sold magical artifacts in all five.
Just as she stepped down from the stage, Yi Xuan suddenly came over and said to her, "What about me?"
Ye Su was puzzled. "What about you?"
"I'm a disciple of Qianji Sect too," Yi Xuan said, pointing to the characters on his robe. "Can I sell magical artifacts too?"
Ye Su laughed. "Sure. Swords, blades—sell whatever you want. Go find Xia Er and Xiyu."
And it wasn’t just him, even Lu Jiu had joined in, helping to sell swords on the arena stages.
Although there were many participants in the competition, there weren’t that many truly top-tier contenders. Especially with a thousand qualification passes up for grabs, Yi Xuan and Lu Jiu weren’t too stressed. Rotating swords in battle was more than enough to handle things.
……
"It really is you."
Ye Su turned at the sound of the voice and saw Lian Lian in a striking red outfit, looking dazzling as ever, with Cheng Huai’an standing beside her.
"It’s been a while, Fellow Daoist Cheng, Fellow Daoist Lian," Ye Su greeted them with a smile.
Lian Lian crossed her arms and walked over, speaking with interest, "Lately, I’ve been hearing rumors about someone neglecting proper competition and just selling magical artifacts on the arena stage. I knew right away it had to be you."
Ye Su raised her eyebrows. "Are you here to buy some magical artifacts too?"
"No need. We’re just here to see how you’re selling them." Lian Lian looked Ye Su up and down. "I thought you’d be competing as a talisman cultivator."
"I dabble in a bit of everything," Ye Su replied with a slight smile. "I call it ‘random cultivation.’"
Lian Lian: "…"
"I saw that your Qianji Sect has four participants," Cheng Huai’an asked curiously from the side. "Who are the other two?"
He’d also noticed that one of them was from a branch sect.
"The other two are the future leaders of Qianji Sect’s sword cultivation division," Ye Su replied seriously. "For a sect on the rise, well-rounded strength is true strength."
"You really think big," Lian Lian scoffed in her usual blunt way. "Qianji Sect wants to become the next Kunlun Sect?"
Although Kunlun specialized in sword cultivation, it also had alchemy halls, talisman halls, and other divisions. All of which produced top talents comparable to any major sect.
As they were talking, a new person stepped onto a nearby arena, it was Yi Xuan.
Ye Su didn’t react much, but Lian Lian suddenly got excited. "Junior brother, look! That guy on the stage, he’s really good-looking!"
Cheng Huai’an: "…"
"His cold expression… I like it," Lian Lian said, cupping her face with both hands, all trace of her usual noble bearing gone.
Ye Su: "…"
No wonder there had once been rumors pairing this woman with the male lead, this is probably how they started.
"Senior sister, we should be heading to our match," Cheng Huai’an said expressionlessly.
"No rush." Lian Lian grabbed his sleeve and pushed toward the arena. "Let’s just watch a little first."
On stage, Yi Xuan held a sword refined by Xiyu. Because of the heavy sword, Xin Shenzi had even dug up several books on sword techniques and guided him personally.
Yi Xuan was now gradually getting the hang of using a single-edged sword.
His opponent was a sword cultivator at the early Gold Core stage, not a weak opponent but still not on Yi Xuan’s level. He was quickly defeated after just a few moves.
Yi Xuan could have won in a single strike, but he deliberately used more moves to show off the sword’s power.
Once his opponent was knocked off the stage, he raised the sword and said, "Anyone want to buy this sword? Just… eighty-eight thousand."
Lian Lian, who had been watching in a daze: "…Another one selling stuff?"
"He’s my junior brother," Ye Su had somehow appeared beside her. "Everyone in Qianji Sect sells things."
Only then did Lian Lian tear her eyes away from Yi Xuan and notice the glittering words "Qianji Sect" on his robe. She was speechless.
"All the good-looking ones have joined Qianji Sect?" Lian Lian stared at the handsome young man on stage, clutching her chest. "What a waste of beauty."
Such a good-looking guy, and he’s out here selling weapons in public?!
Right away, someone in the crowd raised their hand to buy it, clearly someone who’d been waiting a long time just for this moment.
After selling the sword, Yi Xuan spotted Ye Su and walked over. "Senior sister."
Seeing him up close made Lian Lian’s heart race even more but the next second, Cheng Huai’an covered her eyes.
"We’ll head to our match now," Cheng Huai’an said politely to Ye Su. "See you next time."
Ye Su watched them leave, then turned to Yi Xuan. "You priced it too high."
"They were willing to pay," Yi Xuan said casually. He had deliberately used many flashy moves earlier to showcase the sword’s strength.
"Fair enough. Xiyu will be even more motivated to refine now," Ye Su nodded. Since their magical artifacts had been selling so well, Ming Liu Sha, Xiyu, and Xia Er had all been keeping busy lately.
……
A month later, the leaderboard on the tournament stele had shuffled multiple times, but some names had started to stabilize and no longer disappeared.
Everyone had assumed Xu Chengyu and Yi Xuan would be at the top of the rankings. But unexpectedly, it was Qianji Sect’s You Fushi who took the lead.
The preliminaries had open arenas all day, so anyone could compete at any time. The Sword Sect and Ye Su’s group typically competed during the day and rested at night. But You Fushi occupied a single arena without leaving, constantly challenging others with his Chongming Sword.
His points shot up nonstop, not even pausing, he rocketed straight to first place.
As for You Fushi himself, he barely moved on the arena stage, either standing there or lounging in a reclining chair. Sometimes, he would even sit cross-legged and meditate.
Oh, and his little junior brother now had a straw mat too, specially prepared by Ye Su. So he could sit comfortably and even tap on a wooden fish while meditating.
But You Fushi was lazy. Even when tapping the wooden fish, he would do it lazily and inconsistently.
"Why have you stopped tapping it again lately?" Ye Su asked as she watched You Fushi finally step down from the arena stage.
Lately, her junior brother seemed less agitated and irritable. He had even handed the wooden fish back to her.
"I’m fine now," You Fushi looked up at Ye Su and said slowly.
Senior sister didn’t quite understand what he meant, but she had come for another reason.
There were fewer and fewer challengers at You Fushi’s arena now. Since he had never lost a match, only a few came just to test their skills. Most cultivators avoided him altogether.
"In the coming month, there will be random mixed matches," Ye Su said. "If you lose even once, all your accumulated points will be reset, and only your initial score will remain. If you win, you get the points from the person you defeated."
Once mixed matches begin, almost everyone will be forced to join to maintain their rank. The key detail is——if you’re still on the arena at the end of a match, you’ll get to evenly split the total points with others who remained.
This created more room for strategy. Skilled cultivators could even bring weaker ones along to help share the rewards.
