Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 107: Demon Lord
The city guard clutched her waist and slowly crouched down, her body trembling. When she looked up, she was actually grinning.
"So there are some promising talents in the cultivation world," she said, shaking with laughter. "The first two groups that came in were all killed by me, but the third group started slaughtering the city as soon as they arrived."
Hearing this, the expressions of the disciples from various sects changed.
"Hahaha, in order to find the demons responsible for the massacre, you wiped out everyone in the city," the city guard straightened up, even wiping away a tear. "You cultivators are truly something else."
"These people in the Reverse Flow Formation are just afterimages, not living beings," said Gu Liangtian from the Hall of Deliberation, frowning as he prepared to slaughter the city.
The city guard ignored him, continuing to look at Ye Su, saying, "The third group of cultivators ganged up to kill me first, then wiped out everyone else in the city. What a shame... I was pretending. The looks on those people's faces before they died, so entertaining."
"How many demons were in Huicheng twenty years ago?" Ye Su asked her.
The city guard grinned. "A hundred? Ninety-eight?"
"There was only her," Yu Chengyue glanced at the city guard, his pale and delicate face expressionless. "The so-called demons were fabricated by her after the fourth group entered."
"How could it be made up?" The city guard raised both hands. "I released ninety-eight strands of divine sense. I just added a few extra demon formations and a blood pool. Every time they insisted on killing your sister and brother-in-law."
Starting from the fourth wave, those who entered brought all kinds of tools to detect demonic energy and eventually confirmed that there were a hundred demons.
"They killed your sister and brother-in-law right in front of you," the city guard said, her eyes burning with excitement as she stared at Yu Chengyue. "Twenty years, seventy-six times. I remembered them all for you. These cultivators deserve to die. Come with me, I’ll teach you how to kill them."
Yu Chengyue couldn't hold back a coughing fit, as if he were about to cough up all his internal organs. His face was deathly pale, almost transparent. He slowly lifted his quiet eyes and said, "Before they made a move, my sister and brother-in-law were already dead. You killed them."
The city guard’s face stiffened slightly, a trace of demonic energy escaping. "That time… I was wrong. I shouldn’t have killed all of you."
Seeing that he didn’t respond, the city guard became anxious. "I gave up my chance to join the Kunlun Elders just to stay and raise you. Why are you mad just because I killed you? You can kill me too."
Ye Su was stunned. She gave up joining the Kunlun Elders?
From the beginning, the city guard had been a demon hiding within Kunlun, yet she managed to conceal her identity inside Kunlun’s borders all this time.
Yu Chengyue looked at the unmoving city lord and his wife. There was some longing in his eyes. He should have died along with his sister and brother-in-law, yet he had somehow survived.
He looked at the city guard, his expression exhausted. "My spirit root is in your hands. Do with it what you want."
"That exquisite spirit bone only works if you cultivate it yourself," the city guard replied, as if they’d had this conversation countless times.
Yu Chengyue didn’t respond. He just held his sister’s hand. Before long, his sister and brother-in-law would vanish again.
"Why aren’t you saying anything?" The city guard suddenly turned to Ye Su, her voice icy.
Ye Su looked up. "Me? I was just wondering… which Demon Lord you are."
To massacre an entire city alone in one night, tamper with things under the eyes of the five great sect masters, and even manifest a form using divine sense, only a Demon Lord could do that. She couldn’t think of anyone else.
There were three Demon Lords in the Demon Realm. One perished alongside the male lead’s father, another’s whereabouts were unknown, and the last one currently ruled the Demon Realm.
A Demon Lord was equivalent in power to a tribulation-transcending expert in the cultivation world, one of the strongest beings.
The city guard narrowed her eyes. "You seem a little too clever."
As she said this, the city guard had already moved in front of Ye Su, her hand reaching toward Ye Su’s chest.
Ye Su’s pupils contracted, she had no chance to move.
"I’ll go with you," Yu Chengyue suddenly spoke up. "Let them go."
The city guard paused, turning to look at Yu Chengyue. "You’ll come with me just to let these people live?"
"I don’t want to stay here watching my sister and brother-in-law get killed again," Yu Chengyue said calmly, his pale, delicate face expressionless. "I want to kill you."
"Alright," the city guard agreed immediately, walking toward him with excitement. "Come with me."
"Let them leave first," Yu Chengyue said.
The city guard twisted her neck and waved her hand. A blast of spiritual power pushed all the participating disciples out of the Reverse Flow Formation.
Except for Ye Su, You Fushi, and Yi Xuan in the Hall of Deliberation.
Yu Chengyue looked at the city guard. "Everyone."
"These three ruined my plans," the city guard changed her tune. "They must die."
Before Yu Chengyue could stop her, she had already waved her hand, killing intent surging. It was clear the three would be torn apart in the next second.
But Yu Chengyue only heard a loud explosion, and a flash of purple light. Yi Xuan and Ye Su both collapsed.
"…You?" The city guard stared at You Fushi, confused as to how he had resisted her attack.
You Fushi’s once-black eyes had turned violet. With a flick of his hand, the Chongming Sword flew into it.
In a flash, the city guard felt a chill on the back of her neck. She moved at the fastest speed of her life, but still couldn’t completely dodge. The sword pierced her chest.
The Chongming Sword tasted the Demon Lord’s blood, and the red glow on its chipped blade burst with intensity, clearly enjoying it.
The city guard’s hand trembled, but she suddenly sensed weakness from her opponent. Without thinking, she forcefully retreated, grabbing Yu Chengyue and dragging him out of the formation.
You Fushi raised his hand to inspect the Chongming Sword. The purple in his eyes quickly faded. He glanced around, nudged Yi Xuan aside in disgust, then walked over to Ye Su. After a moment’s thought, he decided to lie down beside her.
The Reverse Flow Formation continued to collapse, and the three of them were forced out at the same time.
On the competition field, the sect masters of the Wuxing Sect and the Wanfo Sect suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood.
The other three sect masters immediately stood up and looked toward the formation below.
Wu Yue asked in alarm and confusion, "Something went wrong?"
Right after that, all the disciples appeared on the formation platform at the same time. Each of them collapsed to the ground, their eyes dazed and unfocused.
Daoist Fengchen asked Lu Chenhan, who was standing at the front, "What happened inside?"
Lu Chenhan recalled what had occurred in the Hall of Deliberation. "There’s a demon in the Reverse Flow Formation."
The brown-haired elder frowned. "There were already demons in there from the start."
"Not an ordinary demon," Lu Chenhan paused and then said, "It might be a Demon Lord."
"A Demon Lord?" The sect masters were all visibly shaken.
"Enough, Chenhan. Let’s talk about this later," Daoist Fengchen cut him off. "Let’s announce the list of names for the next round first."
Ye Su stood at the very back of the crowd. She reached out and took a few wish papers she had found earlier at the Plum Garden stage. As soon as she opened them, they crumbled and disappeared without a trace.
But with Ye Su’s memory, she could remember everything written on them clearly.
They were wish notes written by two people. One had bold and sharp strokes, it was the city lord’s handwriting. The other was delicate and neat, and on the second paper, there was even a teardrop stain.
Someone who would cry while writing a blessing for her younger brother could never be a demon, no matter what.
"All disciples with intact passes may proceed to the third round," Daoist Fengchen said in a deep voice from above. "After this experience of slaying demons, I hope all of you have learned something. When dealing with demons in the future, don’t fall into chaos."
Fewer than fifty people emerged from the second trial and were eligible for the next round.
"So sleepy?" Ye Su tilted her head to look at the young junior brother who was nearly leaning his whole body against her.
You Fushi, half-asleep, barely opened his eyes and asked, "What about the spirit stones we earned earlier?"
Ye Su reached into her qiankun bag, then showed him her empty palm.
You Fushi frowned and instantly sobered up, sitting up straight and glaring at the mortal.
Ye Su closed her hand and pressed it gently to her chest with a smile. "I remember it."
You Fushi reluctantly accepted the mortal’s answer.
On the stage, the brown-haired elder from Kunlun was glaring at them, his eyes wide, clearly displeased with their ongoing private chatter.
After the crowd had dispersed, Ye Su and the others hadn’t even fully returned to the courtyard when Daoist Fengchen’s voice reached their ears, it was a sound transmission spoken directly into their minds.
【Everyone who was in the Hall of Deliberation at the time, come to the Kunlun Grand Hall.】
It seemed news had already reached them from the other side. Ye Su had no choice but to stop walking, and with You Fushi, turned back.
Yi Xuan, Xu Chengyu, and the others who had already gone back to the Sword Sect were waiting at the fork in the road.
"That city guard…" Xu Chengyu asked, "Was she really a Demon Lord?"
The five sect masters were all at the Great Ascension Stage, but a Demon Lord was equivalent to a Tribulation-Transcending powerhouse, just one step away from becoming a god.
