Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 108: Linglong Bone
Shangqing Peak, Kunlun Grand Hall.
Daoist Fengchen had already changed into new robes, looking even more imposing on the competition stage. He stood with the elders of various Kunlun peaks on either side of him, while the sect masters of the other four sects were seated below.
The disciples who had been at the Hui City assembly hall arrived one after another, waiting outside. Only when everyone had arrived were they allowed to enter.
The main hall was grand, even its threshold was taller than elsewhere. The moment they stepped inside, they were struck by a powerful pressure, making it almost impossible to move.
Each of the disciples stood straight and walked into the hall, enduring the pressure.
You Fushi still looked lazy and indifferent, leaning against Ye Su, clearly drowsy and just wanting to return and rest as soon as possible.
Ye Su noticed how quickly her junior brother got sleepy and suspected that it was the final killing intent from the city guardian that had injured him. She turned and said, "Once they’re done asking questions, we can go back."
Among all the disciples who were enduring the pressure, the two of them stood out the most or rather, were the most eye-catching.
A Kunlun brown-haired Daoist standing nearby let out a cold snort, clearly displeased with Ye Su and You Fushi. They had been whispering on the competition field, and now even inside the grand hall, they were still at it.
"I heard there’s a demon lord in Hui City." Daoist Fengchen’s voice rang from above. Though he sounded calm, there was an innate authority in his tone that made the disciples’ ears ache. This was the true might of the Kunlun Sect Master, his voice alone could injure those with low cultivation. "Who will explain?"
Lu Chenhan stood in front with his brows drawn together, lost in thought.
"In that case, let the Buddha Son explain what happened," said Daoist Fengchen, his gaze shifting to Gu Liangtian on the other side.
Gu Liangtian raised his head. "The hundred demons in Hui City were an illusion created by the demon lord. The city was massacred in one night, and she was the only killer."
Even though the five sect masters had mentally prepared themselves, they were still shocked to hear it out loud.
"How did you discover she was the demon lord?" asked the Wuxing Sect master, ignoring the damage to his spiritual center and staring intently at Gu Liangtian.
"She placed ninety-eight threads of divine sense into the reverse flow array to mimic demons. Everyone searched for the remaining two, eventually sensing demonic energy on the city lord and his wife," Gu Liangtian explained while turning his prayer beads. "But someone realized they were merely contaminated by the formation, not actual demons."
The higher a demon’s level, the more they resembled cultivators. Some top-tier demons no longer showed the telltale signs like demonic blood or corruption. This was why the city lord and his wife were believed to be demons even after being killed.
The cultivators who entered thought they were higher-level demons.
The masters of the Wanfo Sect and Wuxing Sect looked displeased. Despite their jointly established formation, the demon lord had still entered so boldly and even split off ninety-eight strands of divine sense to toy with everyone.
"Who discovered the city lord and his wife weren’t demons?" asked Sect Master Zhou Qi of the Sword Sect.
"Who else but a Kunlun disciple?" scoffed the master of Upper Chord Sect. "I recall that a year ago, the Daoist gave the Demon-Seeking Disk to Lu Chenhan."
"He only succeeded because of the treasure," Daoist Fengchen said, raising his hand for Gu Liangtian to continue.
"It was clearly Ye Su who discovered it," Ma Congqiu muttered under his breath.
But everyone in the hall, except the disciples, had extremely high cultivation. They all easily heard him.
"So it wasn’t Lu Chenhan?" the Upper Chord Sect master looked at Ma Congqiu, a hint of interest in his voice. "Explain in detail."
"Ye Su didn’t have the Demon-Seeking Disk, but she found problems with the blood pool and formation in the Plum Garden," Ma Congqiu said, straightening up as all the sect masters turned to him. "The demon formation drawn with the pool’s blood could infect people with demonic energy. The city lord and his wife were framed. We were all stunned. It was Ye Su who noticed the city guardian hadn’t disappeared yet, which made us realize something was wrong with her."
On the night of the massacre, the first to die would vanish once their time in the formation ended.
Previously, based on many past experiences, the five sect masters believed that if all the demons weren’t found, the last remaining ones would counterattack. So, everyone always rushed to find every demon, overlooking key details.
Sect Master Zhou Qi looked up at the hall ceiling, avoiding eye contact with his disciple who seemed proud as if he had discovered everything himself.
—Shameful!
"So you’re saying the city guardian inside the array was actually the demon lord in disguise?" asked Wu Yue of the Hehuan Sect. "Then how did you escape?"
"She wasn’t impersonating," Ye Su spoke up. "She was the city guardian from the start."
"What do you mean?"
This statement caused confusion among all the sect masters again.
Ye Su looked up at Daoist Fengchen. "Twenty years ago, during the city massacre, it was the city guardian. Over the past two decades, the one killing people in the reverse flow array was also her. In other words, the city guardian who joined Kunlun all those years ago was the demon lord in disguise all along."
Her words were like a bomb, shocking everyone in the hall into silence.
"You mean the demon lord once stayed in Kunlun?" Daoist Fengchen stared sharply at Ye Su, though his tone remained gentle.
"That’s what she claimed," Ye Su said, enduring the oppressive pressure with a smile. "As for the details, Kunlun probably knows better than I do."
After a moment of silence, Daoist Fengchen nodded slightly. "We will investigate this. But how did you manage to escape? If you had discovered the demon lord, would she have let you go?"
"There was someone else, the city lord’s wife’s younger brother. He stopped the demon lord," Ye Su said. "He made a deal with her to let us go."
"The city lord’s wife’s brother?" the Wuxing Sect Master thought for a moment. "That sickly one who always stayed in the mansion? What could he offer in exchange?"
He was just a mortal.
"The Linglong Bone," Ye Su said, watching the expressions of the five sect masters.
Even though they kept their composure well, their faces still changed ever so slightly. Clearly, they knew what the Linglong Bone was.
"So that’s it… the Linglong Bone," the Wuxing Sect master muttered.
None of the disciples below had ever heard of it.
"Daoist, what is the Linglong Bone?" Lu Chenhan finally asked.
"The Linglong Bone…" Daoist Fengchen seemed to be choosing his words. After a pause, he explained, "It is pure and natural, favored by the heavenly Dao, and allows one to advance without facing tribulation. After the Divine Fall stage, a rogue cultivator with the Linglong Bone reached the Ascension stage at only a hundred years old."
Someone really reached Ascension at age 100?
After hearing Summer Ear’s exaggerated praises so often, Ma Congqiu secretly glanced at Ye Su next to him.
"I’ve never heard of it before," Lu Chenhan said.
"His breakthrough was too extraordinary. To prevent other cultivators’ Dao hearts from wavering, the major sects blocked the news," said Daoist Fengchen. Then, he suddenly slapped the armrest. A surge of spiritual power spread through the hall, and he said angrily, "The Linglong Bone can cultivate any path. That demon lord must have wanted it to grow a demonic heart, that’s why she manipulated the reverse flow array."
"We still don’t know who the demon lord is," said Sect Master Zhou Qi. "If the Linglong Bone falls into demonic hands, it could change everything."
"The demon realm has coveted our spiritual energy for tens of thousands of years. With the Linglong Bone, they’ll gain another powerful advantage," said the Wanfo Sect master, Luo Ji, quietly chanting his beads. He then added, "All disciples must work harder. Don’t let the demon realm seize any opportunity."
"No one is to speak of the second trial to other participants," said Daoist Fengchen, looking down at the disciples. "Return now and prepare for the next round of the competition."
……
The disciples who entered the Council Hall were mostly from the Five Major Sects. After leaving the Kunlun Grand Hall, they all followed their respective sect masters and left.
Only the four from Qianji Sect, along with Ning Qianyao and Jian Hu, had no elders to accompany them.
Ning Qianyao looked at the four people walking ahead together. After a moment’s hesitation, she walked up to them. "Senior Sister, are you still mad at me?"
"Me?" Ye Su turned around. Back in Huicheng, even though they were all in the City Lord’s residence, they had barely spoken.
"About me registering under Wuming Sect’s name… I promise I’ll admit my mistake to the Sect Master once we return," Ning Qianyao stepped forward and tugged at Ye Su’s sleeve, shaking it gently and speaking in a slightly coquettish tone, "Senior Sister, please don’t be mad anymore."
Someone standing behind Ye Su, who happened to be the little junior brother tugging at her clothes, suddenly waved his hand forward and pushed Ning Qianyao’s hand away. He didn’t say a word, just made that single move.
Ning Qianyao: "…"
Ye Su turned her head and saw her junior brother’s hand wrapped tightly in his sleeve, and she couldn’t help but find it amusing.
"I’m not mad at you," Ye Su looked at Ning Qianyao and said. "Sparring among fellow disciples is normal. Junior Sister, there’s no need to take it to heart."
"Really?" Ning Qianyao immediately latched onto Ye Su’s arm and walked alongside her, acting very friendly. "Senior Sister, you were amazing in there, drawing that demonic array so easily!"
Ye Su hadn’t expected Ning Qianyao to try this hard to get close to her…
Before she could even pull her arm back, someone stepped on her heel.
Ye Su turned around and saw her junior brother looking sleepy.
"I didn’t mean to," You Fushi said with his eyes lowered. "You were walking too slow."
"Junior Sister," Ye Su pulled her arm away and said to Ning Qianyao, "I saw your swordsmanship earlier. How about we race using our flying swords?"
"Flying swords?" Ning Qianyao had just started to ask—
Ye Su had already signaled You Fushi to take out the Chongming Sword. The two of them stepped onto the sword, and with a whoosh, they disappeared before the others’ eyes.
Ning Qianyao: "…"
Falling behind, Yi Xuan lifted his eyelids and turned to Lu Jiu. "Wanna race?"
Lu Jiu replied, "I’m only at mid-Nascent Soul. You’re already at late stage."
But even as she said that, she had already summoned her sword and flew off ahead.
Yi Xuan waited a moment before looking down at his Chongming Blade. "Let’s go."
Ning Qianyao stood there, gritted her teeth a moment later, and said to Jian Hu behind her, "Let’s follow them."
Some disciples from other sects hadn’t gone far when they heard the sound overhead. Looking up, they saw Qianji Sect disciples whizzing past.
"They’ve got so much energy," Mei Chouren said, tilting his head back in amazement. "People from Qianji Sect all seem a little off."
Yan Hao recalled what Ye Su did in the first trial, severing her own divine sense and shook his head. "No normal person would do something like that."
……
Ye Su flew on her sword with You Fushi back to the courtyard, successfully avoiding her clingy junior sister. Ning Qianyao suddenly acting so close had honestly made her scalp tingle.
"Senior Sister!" The three disciples in the courtyard were sorting through new materials. Hearing the sound, Xi Yu turned around in delight. "You’re back!"
Ming Liu Sha stood up. "Did… you… pass… the trial?"
Ye Su smiled. "I passed."
"I knew it." Xia Er said with conviction, "There’s nothing Senior Sister can’t do."
Just then, Yi Xuan also landed in the courtyard, with Lu Jiu following behind.
"I’m tired," You Fushi said, and turned to head back to his room.
As soon as he shut the door, the Chongming Sword was left outside. It spun around a few times, backed up a little, then tried to ram the door open.
Ye Su grabbed it and flung it back into the courtyard. "Stay outside."
