Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 89: Scroll
No one expected Jian Hu to suddenly make a move, and even less expected Ye Su would actually charge straight toward him.
One was ranked second in the Western Division, the other dead last in the Eastern Division, anyone could guess with their eyes closed who would win.
But Ye Su showed no fear at all. As she charged at Jian Hu, she threw out several talismans from her hand.
The Fox King was a demon, naturally suppressed in the cultivation world, and he was also injured, his cultivation had dropped. According to the original story, the heroine Ning Qianyao had picked up the fox demon, contracted with him, and raised her realm from early to mid Nascent Soul.
So right now, Jian Hu should be at mid Nascent Soul.
"Petty tricks." Jian Hu glanced at her with phoenix-like eyes and curled a cold smile at the corners of his lips. A few talismans to deal with him? Ridiculous.
He casually grasped in the air, tearing the talismans to pieces, then lightly tapped the ground with his toes, leaping forward. As he charged at Ye Su, the spiritual energy sphere in his palm grew even larger.
Even from far away at the exit of the arena, Xu Chengyu and the others could sense the danger in it.
"Aren’t you going to help?" Lian Lian asked Xu Chengyu, who stood in front.
"Ye Su charged on her own," Xu Chengyu held his sword calmly, "She never does anything she isn’t confident about."
"Not necessarily," Ma Congqiu cut in from the side, "I always felt Ye Su is a bit crazy at heart."
At this moment, Jian Hu had already thrown the energy sphere at Ye Su. It looked like she was about to be hit, but she didn’t dodge at all. Instead, she suddenly spread her hands, and a golden array appeared in front of her. The sphere struck it and disappeared instantly.
"It’s gone!" Zhou Yun stared wide-eyed.
In the west, Gu Liangtian seemed to sense something, paused his steps, turned his head to look at the center of the arena, then, after seeing the array clearly, retracted his gaze and raised his staff to walk away.
The energy sphere vanished without a trace. Even Jian Hu froze for a moment, suspiciously studying Ye Su — she was only early Golden Core.
He gathered another energy sphere in his hands and attacked Ye Su again.
Ye Su took it all head-on, clasping her hands, touching her thumbs and index fingers together to form a seal, then spreading her palms outward. The golden array widened, and the sphere again disappeared upon touching it.
Everyone was stunned. What kind of array is that? It doesn’t even leave a ripple.
But just then, in front of Ning Qianyao, a flash of golden light appeared, the first sphere Ye Su had absorbed reappeared, flying straight toward Ning Qianyao.
Ning Qianyao reacted quickly enough to put up a spiritual shield, but the sphere was too close. Even though the two collided and broke apart, she still took a serious shock.
That wasn’t all, all the other energy spheres that had vanished now reappeared at once, swarming to attack Ning Qianyao.
She threw up three shields in a row, but they all shattered. In the end she was hit directly, spat out blood, and her eyes showed genuine panic, not understanding what had just happened.
Jian Hu had no idea what kind of demonic technique Ye Su had used, but seeing Ning Qianyao hurt, he hesitated to keep using energy attacks.
Most crucially, since they had a contract, Ning Qianyao was injured, and Jian Hu would be affected too, he just forced himself to bear it without showing.
Jian Hu’s phoenix-like eyes burned with furious rage. He no longer used spiritual energy but charged close to Ye Su instead, forming a claw with his hand to strike her.
With a mid Nascent Soul cultivation, few in the arena could even see him move. Normal late-stage Golden Core cultivators wouldn’t stand a chance against that claw, unfortunately, Ye Su saw him.
—Using spiritual sense.
Ye Su didn’t dodge. She raised both hands slightly, and anywhere she had stood before lit up with golden light.
Jian Hu swung his hand to break one, then another, but didn’t notice stepping on a leftover talisman on the ground. Suddenly, a golden array lit up under his foot, instantly teleporting it. Planting his foot directly on top of Ning Qianyao’s foot not far away.
Ning Qianyao looked down after being stomped heavily: "…"
Everyone: "…"
"Was that a teleportation array?" one of the cultivators finally asked hesitantly.
No one had seen someone use a teleportation array to move an attack before, so they didn’t react for a while.
"But when did she set up an array?"
Everyone knew that teleportation arrays usually needed to be placed ahead of time in different locations, then activated with spiritual energy to work.
"Maybe her hand," someone guessed, "when she grabbed the girl in yellow’s face earlier, she probably left an array point."
That guess was right, Ye Su had planted the teleport point the moment she pinched Ning Qianyao’s face, using her other hand to mark an array on Ning Qianyao’s shoe.
Ye Su shook her head regretfully: My skills aren’t good enough yet, I still can’t teleport a whole person.
Originally she just wanted to learn teleportation arrays for herself to save spirit stones in the future, but for now her skill was limited: the distance was short, and she couldn’t send an entire person.
Of course, it was also because the array she’d worked out herself was too simple.
"What a janky teleport array," Lian Lian crossed her arms, "only Ye Su would dare think of using something like that."
Watching half a foot being teleported over was bizarre and speechless-inducing.
Once Jian Hu realized what those random flashes of gold were, he slammed his hand to the ground, destroyed all the arrays, and teleported instantly in front of Ye Su, reaching out to grab her throat.
That grab carried all the fury of someone who’d been toyed with, enough to crush a Golden Core cultivator’s throat.
"Clang—"
A flash of red suddenly appeared. Jian Hu couldn’t dodge in time; his hand was cut, blood pouring out, and a surge of danger shot through his heart. Looking closely, he only saw a sword.
The Chongming Sword had tasted blood, making it even more excited. Its tip turned to aim directly at Jian Hu’s heart, vibrating with excitement as if it wanted to stab through him completely.
Jian Hu stumbled back two steps, feeling the sword’s bloodthirst clearly, it wanted more of his blood.
What kind of sword is this?
He was a mid Nascent Soul cultivator, but before he could react, the Chongming Sword flew in again, this time going straight for his face.
Jian Hu’s energy surged, new and old wounds together throwing off his moves.
"Ye Su, you’re so slow." You Fushi, who had been standing there for a while, grew annoyed seeing this mortal still hadn’t finished off the demon, and couldn’t help but intervene.
Ye Su froze: "…"
"The tournament has not yet begun! Stop causing trouble in the arena!" the host elder finally arrived, stepping on his sword and loudly warning them, "Leave immediately!"
The crowd, who had wanted to keep watching, had no choice but to disperse.
"Senior Sister." Ning Qianyao, pale-faced, stood in front of Jian Hu and coughed up more blood, "I only used Wuming Sect’s name because I was afraid they wouldn’t let artifact refiners enter the tournament."
"No one cares about that," Ye Su walked over in a few steps and suddenly yanked off the qiankun bag at Ning Qianyao’s waist.
Ning Qianyao’s pupils shrank, reaching to snatch it back.
"Don’t move." Ye Su pinned her hand, "A friend of mine had a treasure stolen by a beast, your qiankun bag smells rather familiar."
Hearing this, Ning Qianyao froze, no one could tell whether it was because of the first half or the second half.
Ye Su lowered her head to sniff the qiankun bag, then shook it so Ning Qianyao could smell it too, and brought it close to her face:
"Open it."
"Senior Sister, I don’t know what you’re talking about," Ning Qianyao looked slightly aggrieved with her deer-like eyes, "Are you suspecting I took your friend’s things?"
Ye Su gave a small laugh, leaning close to her ear while staring at Jian Hu behind her:
"That beast stole a scroll, a treasure that can teleport anywhere."
"Too bad, the scroll has a strange fragrance that lingers for a long time."
Ye Su straightened up, took out a handkerchief, and wiped the blood at the corner of Ning Qianyao’s mouth:
"Maybe little junior sister bought something that happened to pick up the scent."
Yi Xuan was watching Ning Qianyao, while You Fushi’s sword was still out, aimed straight at Jian Hu behind her.
—They could not expose Jian Hu’s true identity.
"…Senior Sister," Ning Qianyao generously unlocked the qiankun bag, looking into Ye Su’s eyes, "I’ve bought a lot of things over the last two years, and I also found some in the secret realm. You can take whichever you like."
Ye Su wasn’t interested in her generosity or in rummaging through the qiankun bag. She reached in directly and precisely pulled out a scroll.
"Did you pick this up in a secret realm, little junior sister?" Ye Su asked, "Looks like after that beast stole it, it tossed it away."
Beast here, beast there — behind her, Jian Hu’s face turned extremely ugly.
Ning Qianyao squeezed her hand tightly, then finally shook her head:
"I don’t know. There’s a match tomorrow, Senior Sister. We’ll head back first."
She turned around, dragging Jian Hu away in a hurry.
……
"If he hadn’t stepped in, what were you planning to do?" On the road, Yi Xuan asked Ye Su with an expressionless face.
"When the boat reaches the bridge, it will naturally go straight." Ye Su gave a small laugh. She lowered her head and put away the scroll, planning to send a message to Huang Erqian to come pick it up.
Before they parted, Yi Xuan reminded her with a cold face: "You’re only early Golden Core."
Ye Su raised her eyebrows. She certainly knew her own cultivation level, but in that moment against Jian Hu’s attack, she hadn’t felt any fear at all. She had even already thought through how to use her spiritual sense to counter.
Her spiritual sense was innate; during the preliminary tournament, she had been using her spiritual sense to repair her spiritual palace, and a large portion of it was already under her control. Even someone at mid Nascent Soul couldn’t compare to her.
"Junior Brother." Ye Su called out to Yi Xuan as he turned to leave, "Aren’t you going to ask about the scroll?"
Yi Xuan turned his head:
"Ask what? That you stole something from her?"
Just now, he had clearly seen the shift of emotion on little junior sister’s face for the first time. Although she had hidden it very quickly, that moment of panic at being found out had definitely shown up.
"Something like that." Ye Su smiled with a trace of ambiguity. "Let’s go back."
All the way back, You Fushi didn’t speak, and no one knew what he was thinking.
It wasn’t until they approached the courtyard that You Fushi suddenly spoke:
"You want to take him as a junior brother?"
"Who?" Ye Su was surprised, then after a moment realized: "You mean Jian Hu?"
You Fushi said nothing. This mortal had been tangled up with that demon for so long, yet never used spiritual sense; he suspected her motives.
"Not just anyone can be my junior brother." Ye Su reached out a hand to You Fushi. "No ugly ones."
As if it was natural, You Fushi placed his hand in hers, letting her hold it: "He’s ugly."
The little junior brother’s thoughts jumped around so much that senior sister could barely keep up.
……
"What? The scroll is back?" In the communication jade disk, Huang Erqian, after hearing what Ye Su said, jumped three feet high with excitement, rubbing his hands together after a long moment. "Where did you get it?"
At the time, he hadn’t even clearly seen the shadow of that beast.
"The little junior sister from Qianji Sect picked it up in the secret realm." Ye Su found it hard to explain how she really knew, so she simply used Ning Qianyao’s excuse. "Her qiankun bag brushed against the scroll, and it had a faint fragrance."
"That beast must have stolen it and then tossed it into the secret realm!" Huang Erqian had no doubts about Ye Su’s words.
"Come over and take it away," Ye Su said. "Also, I’ll give you a list, and please help gather the materials on it. You can just deduct the spirit stones from the account later."
"No problem!" Huang Erqian happily agreed. That drop of cold crystal clay had finally, after asking around everywhere, been sold to Shangque Sect as a buyer, getting him quite a good sum.
"I’m still waiting for Qianji Sect to get a great result in the competition so Wendon Materials can share in the glory," Huang Erqian said excitedly. "I’ve already placed my bets!"
