Don't Cause Trouble Chapter 95: Land of Ten Thousand Bones
This demon beast was covered in long red hair, with hooves like an ox, a horse’s body, but a humanlike face, and a curved sharp horn on its forehead. It kept pacing around them, getting closer and closer to the hill, and the hot breath coming from its nostrils was nearly spraying onto Ye Su and Yan Hao’s faces.
Drool was even starting to drip from its mouth, as if it had smelled its prey.
Ye Su had a few talisman slips between her fingers, her hand already raised. If this demon beast made a single wrong move, she would use the talismans to buy them time to escape.
But… why did she also smell a surge of spiritual energy, as if there was power within reach?
Yan Hao suddenly tugged at Ye Su’s sleeve, her face drained of color as she pointed behind them at the hill, silently mouthing: "It moved."
Ye Su slowly turned her head to look behind, the hill still looked exactly the same, no change at all, but that powerful scent seemed to be coming from the hill itself.
In the next moment, the hill suddenly stretched out a huge head and bit down hard on the demon beast just one fist’s distance away from Ye Su.
"Run!" Ye Su pulled Yan Hao and dashed away from the hill and the demon beast.
When they looked back, they saw the long-maned demon beast with a horse’s body and humanlike face having its neck bitten by the huge moss-covered boulder head emerging from the hill. Blood gushed out of its neck, spilling all over the bone stones on the ground.
The demon beast struggled frantically, its four hooves kicking wildly at the "hill." The hill was even kicked so hard it spun around once, but it still refused to let go, its jaws clamped down tight on the beast’s neck.
In the end, its four hooves slowly went limp and stopped moving, though it didn’t die right away. Its horse-shaped body still rose and fell faintly, eyes wide open, as it watched the hill-shaped giant turtle start tearing open its belly.
A rank-six demon beast was eaten alive by another demon beast, just like that.
Ye Su and Yan Hao both broke out in a cold sweat.
Thankfully, that hill turtle didn’t seem interested in them. After finishing its meal, it retreated back into place, pulling in its head and lying perfectly still like a hill.
Yan Hao turned to look at the scattered hills nearby. "We’re dead for sure."
Ye Su closed her eyes briefly and said, "Let’s try flying up first."
She drew a sword and carried Yan Hao, rising on swordflight into the air.
In the original novel, inside the Chaos Mirror, the male and female leads together had slain a rank-six demon beast, and Ning Qianyao had become famous from that single fight. But here, inside the forbidden zone, rank-six demon beasts were as common as stray dogs.
Ye Su seriously suspected that the rank-six demon beast from the original novel had just accidentally escaped from here. But since it had managed to get out, there must be some way to leave the forbidden zone.
"In a place like this, even a master at the Fusion stage might not be able to get out alive," Yan Hao looked down at the hills below, still scared, and said.
The two of them flew on their sword over the turtle-shaped hills, and finally saw a faint patch of green in the distance.
"We…" Ye Su started to speak, "have to go down."
"What?"
Yan Hao had barely finished asking when the two of them suddenly plummeted straight downward without warning.
Right before they hit the ground, Ye Su threw a talisman at Yan Hao, supporting her back, allowing both of them to slow their fall and land gently.
"There’s some kind of force restricting sword flight," Ye Su said, just now she had been completely unable to control the sword under her feet.
"Restricting sword flight?" Yan Hao looked up toward the sky. "I’ve heard of formations like that, but only a great cultivator could set one up."
Ye Su looked toward the patch of green in the distance and suddenly asked, "Don’t you feel like the green area is getting closer to us?"
When Yan Hao heard that, she looked into the distance too. "Maybe we drifted forward as we fell?"
She didn’t notice anything unusual, but still released her spiritual sense, sweeping close to the ground to check again.
Ye Su frowned at the growing clarity of the green color far ahead, an increasing sense of danger rising in her heart. She turned to tell Yan Hao to leave with her, but saw that Yan Hao’s face had gone pale, her whole body frozen in place.
"Yan Hao?" Ye Su pushed her, but got no response.
There was no time to think. Ye Su simply picked Yan Hao up and turned to run. This forbidden zone was full of unknown dangers, a moment’s hesitation could spell disaster.
At this moment, a speed-boosting talisman came in handy. Ye Su ran faster and faster, pulling farther away from that patch of green.
Just then, Yan Hao suddenly gasped sharply, then coughed up a large mouthful of blood, finally snapping back to awareness. Ignoring that she was being carried on Ye Su’s shoulder, she said urgently, "That’s not a green field, it’s green ants! They can even devour spiritual sense!"
Ye Su slammed to a halt.
Yan Hao cried anxiously, "What are you doing? We have to keep running!"
"Get down," Ye Su said.
Yan Hao thought Ye Su didn’t want to carry her anymore and obediently slid down. But when she turned around — she froze.
In front of them, a swarm of rank-six demon beasts was charging straight at them, almost blocking out the sky.
"Ah…so many demon beasts," Yan Hao looked up at the nearly sky-darkening herd, numb.
In front was a dead end, and behind was also a dead end.
"Let’s try the earth-burrowing talisman," Ye Su said, taking out two slips, sticking one to herself and the other to Yan Hao.
After a moment, Yan Hao stiffly turned her head and asked, "Are we… underground?"
Ye Su: "……"
Swordflight didn’t work, earth-escape didn’t work either probably only dying would work.
"There are too many demon beasts ahead," Ye Su suddenly said.
"That’s why this is a forbidden zone," Yan Hao replied, her spiritual sense damaged, her face deathly pale after using her survival technique earlier.
Ye Su signaled Yan Hao to look at the demon beasts charging toward them. "It’s too orderly, none of them are fighting each other. They must have a shared target."
Yan Hao swallowed a handful of pills and mumbled, "Isn’t the shared target us?"
"I’m only at the Golden Core stage, and you’re at early Nascent Soul," Ye Su turned to look at her. "Put together, we can’t even beat one of these demon beasts. They wouldn’t bother with us."
"So… they don’t plan on eating us?" Yan Hao asked after swallowing her pills.
Ye Su stretched out her hand, feeling the wind direction. She looked once more at the demon beasts ahead, then back at the approaching patch of green. "We can only gamble on this."
She pulled out the parachute she had made earlier from her qiankun bag, along with sulfur resin and some other collected materials.
Yan Hao stared blankly as Ye Su squatted down, was she… refining a magical artifact right now?
"What are you doing?" Yan Hao thought to herself. Is she trying to finish making an artifact before she dies?
Refiners are truly strange.
Unlike herself, who only wanted to see her two junior brothers from Qianji Gate one more time before she died.
Ye Su worked at the fastest speed of her life and built a simple hot-air balloon, then stood up, lit the perfectly proportioned sulfur resin, and pulled Yan Hao into the basket.
"What kind of magic artifact is this?" Yan Hao was still completely confused.
Ye Su opened up the balloon overhead. "It’s not a magic artifact. It doesn’t use spiritual energy, only physics."
As the fuel burned, the hot-air balloon began to sway and slowly lifted off the ground, with the basket gradually rising into the air.
"The demon beast is coming," Yan Hao warned, and in a rush she used a spell to hide the entire contraption.
Before the basket was hit, Ye Su threw out a protective charm, but it was easily broken by the rank-six demon beast. She quickly raised a spiritual shield, but that was smashed apart in moments as well.
The demon beast crashed straight into them, tearing through the basket, but at the same time it pushed them upward, causing them to rise higher into the air.
In that instant, Ye Su and Yan Hao worked together to push the demon beast out.
The hot-air balloon wobbled and swayed as it rose, while Yan Hao collapsed against the side of the basket, staring blankly at the huge hole in front of her, still in shock.
It was way too intense.
Her mind was still completely blank, she didn’t even know what had just happened.
Ye Su had already gotten to her feet. She looked through her qiankun bag, found a plank of wood, and used it to block the hole in the basket. Then she stood on it, looking down below.
Those demon beasts were still charging forward, and the green ants were still spreading their territory, finally clashing together.
Those rank-six demon beasts that had been an overwhelming threat to them had only one outcome when colliding with the green ants.
Countless demon beasts fell to the ground, instantly covered by the green ants, and when the ants dispersed, only white bones were left.
It was no different from the Land of Ten Thousand Bones they had seen when they first arrived.
The demon beasts were attacking the green ants too, sweeping with their tails, trampling them, using their saliva to corrode them, all sorts of tactics.
Sure enough, they hadn’t been coming for Ye Su and Yan Hao at all.
"What are those things?" Yan Hao finally regained a bit of clarity, holding onto the basket as she stood up. She glanced down and was startled.
Ye Su shook her head. She stared at them for a while and discovered that the green ants didn’t eat everything — they left all the beast cores, which were being pushed along by a single, darkest-green-colored ant, while the other ants deliberately kept their distance.
Seeing all those beast cores scattered around, Ye Su was tempted.
"Just now you said these green ants can swallow divine sense?" Ye Su asked Yan Hao.
Yan Hao nodded. "My divine sense got too close, they sensed it, and once their antenna touched it, I completely lost control."
"I see…"
Ye Su rummaged through her qiankun bag and quickly made a fishing pole, using a small dustpan as the hook.
"See that beast core over there? I’ll use my divine sense to distract the green ants, you scoop it up," Ye Su handed the fishing pole to Yan Hao, "We’ll split them fifty-fifty."
Yan Hao blankly took the fishing pole, completely confused where Ye Su even got the divine sense from and even more shocked at her insane bravery.
The hot-air balloon wasn’t moving fast. Ye Su set her sights on one of the beast cores, then quickly extended a thread of divine sense, approaching the darkest-green ant.
That green ant hesitated for a moment, then really let go of the beast core and snapped its mandibles toward Ye Su’s divine sense.
"Do it!" Ye Su immediately severed that wisp of divine sense, and called out to Yan Hao.
Yan Hao reacted on instinct, tossing the line. After all, she was Nascent Soul level; she controlled the fishing pole with a bit of clever strength and neatly scooped up the beast core.
Ye Su reached out to grab the beast core, then looked down at the green ant that had just devoured her divine sense and was now spinning around in confusion, unable to find the beast core: "This method works."
Yan Hao clutched the fishing pole, staring at Ye Su almost dumbstruck. "…Are you crazy?"
She had no idea how a mere Golden Core cultivator like Ye Su even had divine sense, but no sane person would voluntarily sever their own divine sense. That was usually a last-resort, life-or-death tactic, and extremely painful for any cultivator.
"Keep going," Ye Su just said calmly.
"Doesn’t it hurt?" Yan Hao asked.
"It’s just a bit of divine sense," Ye Su had already targeted another beast core, seizing the chance to send out her divine sense again, and then severed it once more. "Go!"
Yan Hao could only follow her lead and keep working.
However long they floated, that was how long they kept scooping, until their qiankun bages were stuffed with piles of rank-six beast cores.
"Eat some pills to repair your spirit sea and divine sense," Yan Hao went from disbelief at the start to total numbness, and handed all her pills over to Ye Su.
"Thanks," Ye Su accepted them.
Yan Hao thought for a moment, still feeling something was off. "We’ve got all these beast cores, but if we can’t get out, they’re useless."
Before Ye Su could answer, Yan Hao’s eyes suddenly lit up. "You mean to have us eat these beast cores to advance quickly, then escape?"
"But with so many rank-six beast cores, if we just swallow them down, we’d probably explode on the spot. Besides, you’re only at Golden Core stage, you couldn’t handle it at all!"
Ye Su motioned for her to put the fishing pole away, then turned and walked to the other side of the basket, looking at a distant lake with a smile: "Not to eat them, I’ll save them to use after we get out."
Yan Hao: There’s so much information my brain crashed.
